This qualification is aimed at those who work in, or who want to work in, the children and young people’s workforce in England. It also reflects the range and depth of competence in CYPW skills, required by individuals working in this industry. The qualification is designed to have learners spend time in a real work environment. 

Components Diploma in Children’s Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) Level 3.
Functional Skills - Math Level 2, English Level 2, ICT level 2
Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) [Award in ERR in Health, Social Care and Children and Young People’s Settings]
Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) [All have been mapped qualification within the Apprenticeship]
Awarding body EDEXCEL
Overview Industry recognised certification for those wishing to enter the Children and Young People’s Workforce in England
Intended for Those seeking work in childcare and those already working in organisations who wish to develop their skills.
Duration 12 month minimum
Requirements To complete this qualification, candidates must achieve 64 Credits from a choice of units specialising within your service sector.
Delivery All classroom and workplace based (for individual or groups)
Assessment Observation, discussion, personal statement, supporting documentation, testimony, questioning.
Learner support Learning material, optional in-company workshops
Progression Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children’s Services at Level 5 or job roles in pathways such as Children’s and Children’s Residential Management and Children’s Advanced Practice
Fees Funding available subject to eligibility

 

Please note: 

Qualifications at level 3 and above that meet the Early Years Educator criteria below will be considered full and relevant.

To count in the ratios at level 3, staff holding an Early Years Educator qualification MUST ALSO have achieved GCSEs in English and maths at grade C or above.

The following qualifcations have been agreed as acceptable equivalencies to GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade C or above:

  •  UK recognised predecessor qualifications: ‘O’ level A – C or CSE Grade 1
  •  Recognised Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh equivalents
  •  AS and A/2 levels
  •  Accredited GCSEs which count towards the English Baccalaureate
  •  International qualifications defined by UK NARIC as meeting GCSE A*- C.

If you hold a level 3 early years educator qualification but do not have a GCSE in English and maths at Grade C or above, you can be counted within the staff to child ratios at level 2 only.

The requirement for early years educator qualifications and GCSEs in English and maths will not be applied retrospectively. Staff and learners who hold or are working towards existing full and relevant qualifications will still be able to practice and will not need GCSEs in English and maths at Grade C or above.

 

(Level 3 NVQ/QCF) Diploma in Children's Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) - Qualification structure

To achieve the CYPW (Early Years Educator) full Level 3 qualification, the learner must complete a minimum of sixty-four credits, of which forty-six credits must be achieved at Level 3 or above; forty-six credits must be completed from Group A Mandatory Units and eighteen credits from Group B optional units.
